Our Story

Field & Flour

We’re a small cut flower farm and bakery just north of Greeneville, Tennessee. Our mission is simple: Do good work the right way and share joy with others.

We offer seasonal flowers and tasty baked goods as a way to make your life more joyful.

Lots of Little Things

Our path to starting Field & Flour was lined with small things along the way: the camellia in the backyard of our Ballard rental; our first house’s amazing lot, curated over decades by master gardeners and filled with treasures; living just down the street from one of the best peony nurseries in the country; Sara’s work with a consortium of sustainable wheat farmers in the Pacific Northwest; Josh’s love of being outdoors and producing beautiful and tangible joys. And really, just a lifelong love of carbs.

In June 2018, Josh sent me an email pitching a business idea:

On my run, I thought maybe we should try starting a community-supported business: Focus on cut-flower home delivery in the warmer months and baked goods in the cooler months. I even have a tentative name for it: Field & Flour.

I thought he was kidding. We drove to the library the next day to return some books—a book on peonies, one on dahlias, and a cookie recipe book. I said, “Ha! These would be perfect for that business you were joking about.”

Turns out he was serious.

Josh & Sara

We got married in 2013, down by the river. Our wedding had lawn games, a foot race, lobsters as prizes, and lanterns that nearly set the woods on fire.

Next time you’re at our farm, ask us how we met. It involves Mace and thermodynamics.
